point
do you think street people have different dreams? what do they dream about? i think perhaps i will talk to them about their dreams. i need some direction for my interview (i hate that word) and maybe dreams should be that. dreams of their future, dreams in the night, dreams from their childhood. yes?

dear diary
today is my birthday. i am 13. hopefully i will get my first kiss soon. i hope its not gross. sometimes i think that no boys will ever like me. but i am thirteen now and my boobs are getting bigger. so boys will notice me.
right now im brushing my hair. it is getting so long and im going to put it into braids for today because i look nice in braids. i do not look nice with braces however, hopefully they come off soon or when i kiss boys they will cut their tongues.
moms calling me, i have to go.
happy birthday to me!
love,
callie

Description:
this project will consist of a series of polaroids which will be mounted on a wall or placed in a book (photo album). the photographs will be in groups of four or five each group having a theme (being the person that the photographs are of). there will hopefully be around 20-30 photographs. they will be of notorious people from windsor and surrounding area, homeless people, drug addicts, well known characters such as the feather hat man. along with the photographs will be a recording for each person that is interviewed, the recording will be of each person talking about their life, what they do, where they live, etc. - and about what they think of the myths about them. the viewer will be able to look through the photographs of each individual whilst listening to them talk about themselves.
Creative Problem:
there are a few things that could go wrong with this project, for example the subjects may not want to participate and may even be hostile towards me. they may want to be recorded but not photographed, or vice versa. dealing with people such as these does pose a risk to my own safety because i cannot know whether they are dangerous or not and i am putting myself out there hoping they will not react negatively to my project. they could also feel alienated and exploited.
Ideas, subject matter, theme:
the idea behind this piece is to clear up any minsconceptions people have about these characters that we see around every day. most people have their own ideas about who they are and what their story is, but i doubt they are accurate. i would like for people to come to the realization that you can’t judge some one by what you hear about them or how they look, etc and infact everyone has a story and everyone has something to say and a part to play and it is important to recognize that. i think it would be fascinating to see the viewers reaction to what each subject matter has to say and how they personally feel about the stories about them. it is sortof a way of giving some power back to those who have nothing and who are often mistreated because of their economic and mental situations, etc. i am doing this because a) i am curious to get to know these people and find out about them and let them know that some one does care and is interested in what they have to say and what they are going through and b) because i would like for my audience to experience what it’s like to go out of your boundaries and put yourself into some one elses shoes.
this has been something that has interested me for some time; i often watch people in the hallways or in the mall or downtown and wonder what they are thinking or who they are, who they love, who loves them, what their life has been and things like that. this is also a way for me to get past my own insecurities about talking to people and meeting new people and being vulnerable, and it is a way for me to try and overcome my social anxiety which has been a problem for me.
yay. hope you enjoy.
